Kurigram, Bangladesh. November 22. 2015. [DrikNEWS] - A total of 72 people from two Indian enclaves of Kurigram who opted for retaining Indian citizenship, moved to India through Bagbhandar border point at Bhurungamari upazila on Sunday afternoon. Officials from Indian High Commission in Dhaka and the local administrations and many locals gathered at the border point to say goodbye to 16 families. The family members earlier were provided with travel passes to facilitate their movement to India. A total of 39,621 people out of over 40,600 living in 111 enclaves inside Bangladesh sought to become Bangladesh citizens, while 979 of them opted to retain Indian nationality, according to the survey. Bangladesh handed over its 51 enclaves located inside Cooch Bihar to India in exchange of 111 Indian enclaves it received under the historic land boundary agreement signed between the two countries in 1974.
