Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh. September 13, 2015 [DrikNEWS] – The circumference of jute production is increasing day by day at Naldanga and other nearby villages of Natore. The demand of jute has increased, and farmers have been getting good price of it for last few years. As a result, they are becoming interested much in jute production in the district. According to sources at Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) the target of jute cultivation this year was 1100 hectares of land, but the cultivation has exceeded the target. This year, 2200 hectares of land have been brought under jute cultivation in Naldanga. The famous jute selling markets of the district are Naldanga, Gurudaspur, Nazirpur, Tebaria and Hatiandaha. Jute is now being sold at $32 to $35 per maund in different markets. However, jute farmers complained about a group of dishonest businessmen deceiving them in terms of weight and price. They want government’s active steps to be taken against these businessmen. Al-Haj Uddin Ahmed, deputy director of Natore DAE, said, jute is environment-friendly, and so the demand of jute is increasing in the country and abroad.
