Title:Waterlogged Chittagong

Chittagong, Bangladesh. September 02, 2015 [DrikNEWS] – Daily life of the city people were hampered badly because of water logging and traffic congestion as many parts of the port city went under water due to incessant downpour on Monday and Tuesday. Frequenters mainly the office goers and students of educational institutions are suffered due to shortage of public transport and tailback following the waterlogging. The commuters also had to spend much as the drivers charged additional fare in cashing of the situation. The rain that started on Saturday afternoon continued with some breaks. It intensified further on Tuesday early hours and continued till Tuesday afternoon. Met Office in the city recorded a total of 149.1mm rainfall in last 24 hours ending at 6:00pm on Tuesday. Most of the low-lying areas of the city, including Sholoshahar, Muradpur, Badurtala, Chandgaon, Chawk Bazar, DC Road, Chandgaon, Mohora, Panchlaish, Korbaniganj, Boutola, Probortok Morr, Kapasgola, Shulakbahar, Bakolia, Halishahar, Agrabad Access Road, Port Connecting Road and CDA Residential area went under knee-deep to waist-deep water. The rainwater entered into houses, academic institutions and business establishments in many of these areas. Meanwhile, a dam in the city’s Patenga area developed breach allowing the tidal water into the locality at Laldiar Char in the afternoon.
