Gaibandha, Bangladesh. May 6, 2015 [DrikNEWS] – Gaibandha char areas were once dry and barren. Now, spots of green and orange have begun to sprout from the sand as farmers have started to cultivate pumpkins on the dunes. The families, which lost everything in river erosion, are now recovering by cultivating pumpkins. This year 2061 farmers planted pumpkins in 200 acres of lands in chars of 6 unions of Gaibandha. Cultivation of pumpkin is less costly and needs less labour. The pumpkin cultivation will bring along solvency to river erosion affected families in the near future expects farmers.
