Chittagong, Bangladesh. April 28, 2015 [DrikNEWS] - BNP-backed mayoral candidate for Chittagong City Corporation M Manjur Alam boycotted the election, raising allegation of vote rigging. Manjur Alam claimed that Awami League cadres have occupied the 80 percent polling centres of Chittagong. Manjur also declared quitting politics. A fight between Awami League and BNP supporters was seen outside the polling centre at Poshchim Bakulia High School Chittagong. Males were seen casting votes at a female vote centre of Agrabad Talebiya Government Primary School. The mayoral voting finished within 11am by supporters and not voters. Polls for the three city corporations in Dhaka and Chittagong have started at 8am today. Six million people in Dhaka North and South and Chittagong were expected to exercise their franchise to choose mayors and councilors. Altogether 75,000 personnel of several law-enforcing agencies have been deployed to ensure safety of the voters and maintain law and order in Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chittagong city corporations.
