Title:The last tribute to eminent artist Qayyum Chowdhury

Dhaka, Bangladesh. December 2, 2014 [DrikNEWS] – Eminent artist Qayyum Chowdhury’s dead body was taken to the Institute of Fine Arts, Shahbagh and Central Shaheed Minar to pay last tribute to the legend yesterday. The artist collapsed at the Bengal Classical Music Festival at the capital's Army Stadium on Sunday night while he was conveying his speech for the second time where he wanted to say something more even after finishing the speech once. But, nobody would ever know what the celebrated artist wanted to say. The Ekushey Padak and Independence Award-winning painter was rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where doctors declared him dead. CMH Commandant Brig Gen Mohammad Nasir Uddin told the media that the noted artist suffered a massive cardiac arrest and breathed his last around 9:00pm. Qayyum Chowdhury was born on March 9, 1932 at Feni. He was the most popular among the first generation artists of Bangladesh. He is famous for his cover designs, but his significance as a painter is immense. His namaz-e-janaza was held at the Dhaka University Central Mosque after Zohr prayers and later buried at Azimpur graveyard. Photos: Fahad Kaizer / DrikNEWS
