Gaibandha, Bangladesh. April 13, 2016. [DrikNEWS] - A human chain was organized by the journalists of Gaibandha at the D.B. Road of Gaibandha today to protest the murder of photographer and Drik official Md. Irfanul Islam who was abducted, and murdered, on April 2, 2016. The protesters blocked the busy DB Road for 5 minutes after the human chain. People of all walks spontaneously participated in the event. Chairman of Gaibandha Press Club K M Rezaul Haque and general secretary Abu Jafar Abu gave their speech during human chain. Govindalal Das, Zohurul Kaiyum, Rajatkanti Burman, Ariful Alam Babu, Ziaul Haque Jony, Probir Chakraboarty, DrikNEWS Gaibandha correspondent Quddus Alam and many more were present in the human chain. Participants and speakers demanded for quick actions to be taken for identification and punishment of Irfanul Islam’s murderers. Drik’s official Md Irfanul Islam went missing after withdrawing money from Dutch-Bangla Bank's Dhanmondi branch on April 2. His cellphone was switched off after 11:44am. After filing a General Diary (GD) at Kalabagan Thana, his colleagues formed four investigation teams which searched areas surrounding Dhaka. Drik officials learnt the next morning that the body of an unidentified man, wearing yellow and white clothing, was found at Jalkuri in Narayanganj on Saturday afternoon from news published in a national daily. It was indeed Irfanul. Irfanul Islam's colleagues, and later his elder brother Imdadul Islam, rushed to Narayanganj Victoria Hospital and identified the body. Photos: Quddus Alam/DrikNEWS
