Title: Spicy red chili is now a blessing to farmers of Gaibandha
The char areas (dry sandy land) of Fulchhari, Shaghata, Sundarganj and Sadar upazila are now filled with red chili farms. Nobody has ever thought crops could be grown in these fallow lands. The cultivation of chili is most popular nowadays. Char affected families are quite well-off now. Representatives from local agriculture office trained the community to grow chili in a proper manner. Chili was being cultivated in nearly 2000 hectares of land on the banks of Jamuna and Brahmaputra of the district this year. The biggest vegetable market of Fulchhari is now known as ‘chili market’.
