Hundreds of confiscated rickshaws and other vehicles are dumped inside the Police Pound situated in the city's Agargaon area. Most of the other vehicles are later on released to their owners in lieu of a fine, but not the rickshaws. Surprising though it may seem the money required in the process of securing a rickshaw's release would be sufficient to buy a new one. So, in most cases the poor rickshaw-pullers can never hope to use their rickshaws again once they have been confiscated by the traffic police. According to the Office of Traffic Control there are 76,000 licensed rickshaws in Dhaka though the actual figure is above 6,00,000. Dhaka, Bangladesh. June 07, 2009 by- A.M.Ahad
